Skilled dealmaker. Passionate advocate.

Jake Babad is a practicing lawyer licensed with the Law Society of Ontario. He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2019, receiving awards for academic achievement in the areas of property law, real estate, and conflicts of law, and the Dean’s Letter Recognizing Cumulative Overall Excellence. He was called to the bar in 2020. Before founding Babad Law, Jake practiced at Torys LLP in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. He appears before all levels of courts and tribunals, and he provides advisory and transactional services to his clients.

Before becoming a lawyer, Jake worked as a literary and media rights agent, developing his skills as a client advocate. He has since returned to this world: in addition to his work at Babad Law, Jake is an agent and co-owner at Westwood Creative Artists Ltd., a literary agency based in Toronto. From this experience, Jake brings an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities facing clients in media and entertainment.

Jake is passionate about written advocacy. He enjoys working with other lawyers who don’t have the time or resources for intensive research or drafting. To get a sense of Jake’s approach to legal writing, you can read the article he co-authored in The Advocates’ Journal titled “The Word is in: Factums without (page) limits.”

Jake also provides pro bono services to tenants in Toronto’s west end who are involved in disputes with their landlords.

Jake is an avid reader and film buff. He’s currently reading Playworld by Adam Ross.
